On Wednesday, 24 January 2018, AITRS concluded a three-day workshop on the use of modern technologies and GIS in census taking. The workshop organized for the purpose of presenting and discussing successful Arab experiences with a focus on the 2017 Egyptian Census in light of the challenges and opportunities that accompanied this major national statistical process by adopting for the first time the electronic method and geographic information system and enabling the issuance of the results in record time. Noting that the Egyptian experience came after the success of the Jordanian census, which implemented in the same way in 2015, followed by the Palestinian experience, which is now in its final stages. In addition to other Arab experiences, varying somewhat in terms of the use of modern technologies, GIS and administrative records. The workshop was attended by 32 participants representing 13 Arab countries as well as the GCCSTAT Center.
