The Arab Institute for Training and Research in Statistics and the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia in cooperation with the UNSD and financial support from the Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development, organized a regional workshop on national accounts and infrastructure development for economic statistics within the framework of Sustainable Development Goals during the period 15- 18 May 2017 in Amman, Jordan. International and regional experts as well as 18 professionals in the field of national accounts from 14 Arab statistical agencies participated in this workshop. The workshop focused on the following topics:
- The implications of the application of 2008 National Accounts System for GDP and monitoring the Sustainable Development Goals;
- Methodology and uses of supply and use tables in national accounts;
- How to assess the informal sector and the most relevant data sources;
- Utilizing the administrative data and statistical record for the national accounts and Sustainable Development Goals;
- Linkages between the national accounts, balance of payments and financial firms;
- Measuring the outputs of financial services, especially the methods of indirect calculation of financial brokerage services and outputs of life and non-life insurance and social security.
