On July 5, 2018, the regional workshop on “Agriculture, Food, Land Tenure and Use to Support SDGs in the Arab Region” has been concluded. The workshop was organized by AITRS for 5 days in collaboration with the World Organization for Food and Agriculture (FAO) and attended by 16 participants from the Arab statistical offices.

The workshop program focused on the role of FAO in monitoring sustainable development indicators at the regional and national level; the methodology for each of the twenty-one agriculture related indicators; the need for data to measure the indicators and steps to be taken in each country to be able to meet these data needs; the traditional and modern sources that provide the correct data to measure the numerical indicators related to the SDGs and reporting on the progress made towards their achievement; as well as the production procedures for such indicators and interactions with FAO in carrying out these procedures.

The training approach was based on presentations by two experts from FAO-Rome as the responsible custodian for 21 indicators under 6 SDGs and on interactive discussions between the participants and experts which received the trainees’ satisfaction.
