In cooperation with the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) and AITRS held a regional workshop on the development of transport statistics and indicators of sustainable development related to transport in the Arab countries at the United Nations House in Beirut, Lebanon, during the period 16-18 - September 2019.This workshop is part of the work strategy of the Institute and the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), which aims to develop economic statistics, including transport statistics and sustainable development indicators for member countries in the Arab region.The workshop also seeks to update the transport databases and statistics in the Arab countries, including the production and dissemination of sustainable development indicators related to transport, as they are important in improving monitoring of the SDGs, in addition to seeking to build a regular regional database in ESCWA. International standards provide comparable data and indicators.The workshop also aims at identifying the needs of Member States in terms of capacity building and efficiency, as well as identifying possibilities for mutual benefit from successful experiences and lessons learned.
